Hardware Assessment

To assess the hardware and software needs faculty and students.
Use an email questionnaire to determine faculty and student hardware needs.
Create the poll, administer the poll, collect the data, meet with the Technology Committee to discuss a plan of action and review the hardware/software renewal plan as needed.
Ongoing discussions with Technology Committee regarding hardware needs independent of the pool.
Technology Committee discussion and review of hardware renewal plan.
Use the BISSNET staff and student (paper) questionnaires.
Technology Coordinator will compile the data and present to the Technology Committee and Academic Council for comments and suggestions. Tech committee will then review hardware renewal plan as needed.

Review technology in use at other local high schools, colleges, fortune 500 businesses, and local businesses to enhance decisions.
Assign different members of the Technology Committee to collect information on those technologies in use.
To keep faculty mobile computers up-to-date.
Integrate faculty mobile computers into the hardware renewal plan.
Technology Coordinator revises this document.

Have a hardware request form available for staff and faculty.
Technology Coordinator to create online and paper hardware renewal form and review regularly with the Committee and school administration.



Technology Repairs

To respond timely to common technology repair issues.
Continue the current "Help Desk" in-house model of service to faculty/staff.
Keep Assistant to the Technology Coordinator position as part of the budget.
To minimize hardware or software failure.
Continue existing warranties on all essential networking hardware and servers; continue to budget funds for hardware and software support.
Technology Coordinator will budget for warranties and 3rd party hardware and software support.

To standardize platorms and applications.
Ensure that all faculty/staff use the latest version of Windows on a PC; maintain the most recent version of Microsoft Office on all school computers.
Yearly review of existing software and approval of Academic Council and Technology Committee recommendations before using NY State Mandated Student Funds and Federal Title II Funds.
To ensure faculty and staff have the necessary skill level to maximize productivity in the classroom.
Provide training on emerging and existing technologies for use in the classroom.
After school classes, staff development in-service days, courses offered through BISSNET, and annual funds set aside for off-campus training.

To guarantee a digital projector in each classroom.
Ceiling mounted wireless projectors provided in every classroom where they will be frequently used by teachers. Loaner projectors for ad hoc use by other teachers.
Budget and purchase the appropriate number of devices while reviewing the number of existing and near-future faculty requiring mobile devices.
To provide teachers with mobile devices so they can walk around the classroom, enhance student learning, and increase productivity them off-campus.
Provide mobile computing devices for all faculty members who display a need.
Administration to interview the faculty and determine the number and type of devices needed.
Technology Coordinator to purchase devices Spring 2011.
Tech Coordinator and Assistant to configure laptops during Summer 2011.
Provide training during 2011-2012 school year.
Provide in-service training on using mobile devices in the classroom.
To allow teachers access to data files off-campus.
Set up a VPN for those teachers with mobile computing devices.
Technology Coordinator to set up network for VPN access and Assistant to set up mobile devices with VPN client.



Students

To facilitate student communication with teachers and each other via safe email.
Set up intra-net email account that work only with stfrancishigh.org accounts.
Purchase and implement a Microsoft Exchange e-mail server.



Parents

To inform parents of student progress and activities in a more timely manner.
Parents can check the academic progress of their son and get other information via the school website.
Continue to upgrade and expand the school website. Purchase and setup a webserver and utilize the html output of our current SchoolMaster SIS.
Security will be put in place to password protect all student information and not list any student personal information outside a secure authorization system.

Network

To ensure all areas of campus have fast, reliable network connections, including available wireless access points.
Update network infrastructure.
Replace existing wiring and hubs with new wiring, routers, and switches.
Replace Science Lab access points and install new access points for the entire campus.
To prevent data loss through an automated daily, redundant backup system.
Automated daily cycle of backups, End of Month Backups, End of Year backups, offsite storage, and disaster plan.
Purchase a backup server, purchase network-assisted storage, formulate a plan to store EOY tapes and pervious year EOM tapes off-campus.
Technology Coordinator to formulate a disaster recovery plan and educate the Assistant and school administration in the event of an emergency.

Security and Monitoring

To maintain a secure network free from threats.
Protect all devices on the network from viruses, spyware, hacking and other attacks.
Use available Windows server and Anti-Virus/Anti-Hacking/Anti-Spyware software. Network Administration maintained by the Technology Coordinator.
To protect students, faculty, and staff from inappropriate content and dangerous persons on the Internet.
Filter the Internet for all users, with particular attention to student accounts.
Continue to run Internet filtering software and upgrade the Proxy server to monitor and control Internet usage.
